Las Ramblas, Montjuic by cable car and the Magic Fountains...all while Harley Days rage in Barcelona!
We started tonight at Placa Catalunya, a plaza at one end of Las Ramblas. This area was definitely the most crowded one we've been in so far...although I have a feeling Paris might take the cake. Placa Catalunya was very pretty...
Then ambled on over to Mercat de la Boqueria - a big market area right off Las Ramblas that has tons and tons of yummy stuff. Zoe got some strawberry/mango juice, Zack got a big thing of raspberries, I got bread and a bunch of olives and Chris got more olives (and bought me a beer.)
We were only walking for a few seconds when we found a tapas bar that was advertising pizza! The kids were all in, and they had bunches of yummy tapas at the bar that looked great to Chris and I, so we brought our olives and bread with us and ordered some pizza (with blue cheese on it - not sure what the kids would think, but they really liked it!)
Then we set to the work at hand...some serious shopping! Feliz Cumpleanos Ya Ya! Zoe picked it out :)
I told you we'd find him a matching one ;)
We spent a bit more time on Las Ramblas
and then literally ran through metro stations and Barcelona streets to make the last cable car of the day. Telefèric de Montjuïc was amazing! The cable cars took us up to check out Castillo de Montjuic and the port, and took us high enough to see all of Barcelona. Pretty amazing!
The castle had just closed (which seemed a little ridiculous...I mean it was only 9pm!), but we were able to walk a whole lap around it and see more amazing city views.
Chris taught Zack and Zoe all about how a port works...
On the 2 mile walk back down (I'm really not complaining, but we seriously walked at least 5 miles today - probably a great deal more. Much of it, Zoe spent on Chris' shoulders. Spaniards are not used to shoulder riding...they were all very concerned about la cabeza! Zoe's such a pro, she just ducks!), we got to walk through some of Olympic Village
Remember when they were showing diving on TV and you could see the city in the background (no? I don't either, but Chris says he remembers it!) - this is the diving pavillion from the Olympics...
We found a Metro and took it back to Plaza Espana - where Harley Days (European bike week) was in full swing. Fair rides, crazy food, and all the black and orange leather you could even want. It was another one of the craziest things we have ever experienced...of course, the kids, Chris and I walked right through it all to get to the Magic Fountains of Montjuic...
Now check out Harley Days...
Everyone else is passed out. Tired campers here...it was a physical day (seriously, at least five miles). But we have a six hour train ride to Leon tomorrow...so we can rest up! Hope everyone's Saturday was as magical (and exhausting) as ours! XOXO, Benderz

The pictures are great! (Nice to see you too KD! Thank you!) I ove all the mentions of food! That's exactly what I'd do :)
ReplyDeleteNope. Sorry to say our Sat was pretty relaxing out at the beach. You guys are getting enough exercise for us too ;)
Way to go Z & Z!
