We woke up this morning in Naples. It was a weird night with team meetings, classes, finals and trainings on EST - but everyone got their stuff done, and got much needed rest. That may well be one of the themes of this trip - play and explore hard, but allow plenty of time to rest too!
Chris woke up and ran 2.75 miles up to Castel Sant’Elmo and back - and grabbed some pictures along the way of parts of Naples the kids and I won’t make it to. Always thankful for the run pics, and the extra sleep 😉

We had to be out of our apartment by 11, but didn’t need to be at the ferry gate until 1:30, so we set out to find a restaurant with gluten free options, within “walking distance”, with seating that allowed for all of our bags. Let me just say, the cobblestone streets are no joke - we read the comments online about rolling suitcases and cobblestones, but just assumed we were tough enough. The cobblestones darn near won.
We did find a perfect spot - but it didn’t open until noon. So the kids tried to shop in a bank - and got kindly corrected by the cops, and we sat with the bags. At noon we got the table right on the street. They immediately pointed out the QR code we could scan for the English version of their menu and Zoe took a few minutes and finished her Florence class final!

Lunch was pizza, gnocchi and a calzone like dish.

We lingered at lunch until it was time to head to the Port. It was only supposed to be another .3 miles, but we took a wrong turn somewhere and ended up in walking a bit extra. No big deal, but those cobblestones…

While waiting in line for our ferry to Amalfi, we got a report card (good, yay!) and a pic! He does look like he’s sending us the stink eye though.

We had a 2 hour ferry ride to Amalfi (or so we thought). We settled in and everyone but Zoe took a little nap. After an hour and a half, they announced everyone was getting off at Positano and that Amalfi visitors were boarding a different ferry. So we did get a quick visit to (the port in) Positano. It was exactly how I had imagined it. Gorgeous.

Family selfie in Positano!

We did get on our next ferry and make our way to Atrani where we are staying for the next three days. While on the ferry, this guy ate a banana and then rubbed the inside of the peel all over his face for a good 5 minutes. I did a Google deep dive, and apparently it’s like natural Botox?! Anyway, it was my entertainment for the ride.

We arrived in Amalfi Town knowing we had a 20ish minute walk to our Airbnb. The first 15 or so were the walk from Amalfi Town to Atrani where we are staying.

Part of the walk was an air conditioned tunnel between the towns - and no cobblestones!

When we arrived in Atrani, the fun (stairs) really began!

I was carrying bags, and we really just wanted to be done, so I didn’t take many pics on the walk (climb) to our apartment - but there are many, many stairs. Totally doable - but the luggage added an additional arm workout.

But our apartment is amazing - both the inside and the view from it! Truly incredible. These pictures are all from our balcony -

I’ve already needlepointed on the balcony. It won’t be the last time. This is our view from bed. I have a video of the view and apartment that I’m going to try and add later. I’ll add them in the Facebook comments too. In love with this place!

We dropped our luggage (YAY!) and took a beat before heading down to check out the beach.

Chris wanted to let everyone know that I “made” him stand in a hole for this picture and Zack is absolutely not this much taller than him.

The black, super coarse sand was very different! When our feet got wet, it stuck and almost looked like shoes. It intrigued the coastal engineer.

Behind us is Atrani, our home base for the next 3 days.

Not only was there a ton of sea glass, there was a ton of sea pottery! Like a ton. We don’t have much room in our luggage, but we will definitely be bringing some home.

The boys swam, while Zoe and I looked for sea glass and protected our snack from the biggest sea gulls I have ever seen. They did wait very patiently for us to share.

Then it was back upstairs to put our feet up for a bit and get ready for dinner.

We had a 8:45 reservation tonight at Il Veliero. We ended up inside because it had started to sprinkle and there were no tables under the umbrellas - so I didn’t get any pictures of our cute Umberto Piazza. On the list for tomorrow. Bender got wine, and I got a lemoncello spritz.

Carbonera, pizza, linguini with porcini mushrooms and spicy arrabbiata penne for dinner tonight! All delish - and really, really reasonable!

After dinner we went looking for a gelateria, but it’s either closed or it’s in the upper part of the town and we voted to not do additional stairs tonight. So we took tunnel selfies…

Bender found a statue he liked…and some gelato.

And we may have found some more spritzes too.

It was a great end to a great day. Nobody lasted long before they fell asleep - hence the morning blog posting. Sorry for the delay - have the best Saturday y’all!
XOXO, the Benderz
